Typing Speed Test
Last updated: 2026-06-25
The typing speed test times how long you take to type along with a prompt and calculates your typing speed in WPM (words per minute) and your accuracy.
WPM = (keystrokes ÷ 5) ÷ elapsed minutes; English characters count as one keystroke each, while Korean counts 2 keystrokes without a final consonant and 3 with one.

How to Use
- Choose a prompt — Pick an English or Korean prompt, or get a new one with the New Sentence button.
- Start typing — The timer starts automatically as soon as you type the first character.
- See your result — Finish the prompt and your WPM, accuracy, and elapsed time are shown.
How WPM Is Measured
Typing speed is usually expressed as WPM (words per minute). Since "words" vary in length, the standard convention counts every five keystrokes as one word. In English each keystroke is a single key press, so a 60-character prompt is about 12 words. Korean is different: one syllable is built from initial, medial, and final letters (jamo), so the character count differs from the actual number of key presses. This tool converts a Korean syllable with no final consonant (e.g. 가, 나) to 2 keystrokes and one with a final consonant (e.g. 강, 한) to 3 keystrokes before computing WPM.
| Input | Example | Keystrokes |
|---|---|---|
| Letter / number | a, Z, 7 | 1 keystroke |
| Space / symbol | (space), . | 1 keystroke |
| Korean, no final consonant | 가, 너, 도 | 2 (initial + medial) |
| Korean, with final consonant | 강, 한, 글 | 3 (initial + medial + final) |
WPM = (keystrokes ÷ 5) ÷ elapsed minutes, and accuracy is the share of your typed characters that match the prompt. A high speed with many typos lowers accuracy, so it is best to keep accuracy at 95% or higher while raising your speed. For effective ways to type faster, see the How to Type Faster guide.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How is WPM (words per minute) calculated?
WPM is your number of keystrokes divided by five (the standard word length) and then divided by the elapsed minutes. English, numbers, and symbols each count as one keystroke. Korean prompts are converted to keystrokes (2 for a syllable without a final consonant, 3 with one) before being divided by five.
How is accuracy measured?
Accuracy is the percentage of characters you typed that match the prompt by position and value. For example, if you type 100 characters and 95 match, your accuracy is 95%. Many typos lower accuracy even when your speed is high.
What is a good typing speed?
Around 40 WPM is roughly average, 70 WPM and above is fast, and 100 WPM or more is very fast. The value can vary with the prompt difficulty and how speed is measured, so treat it as a reference.
When does the timer start?
The timer starts the moment you type the first character and stops automatically once you finish the prompt. No time is counted while the input box is empty.
Are my results saved?
No. Every test runs only in your browser, and what you type and your results are never sent to or stored on a server. Refreshing the page clears your results.
